【From GHC】GHC held Masters Thesis Defense of 2018

On May 8th 2018, GHC held masters thesis defense in the meeting room of main campus.Prof. Zhang Xushan of Tsinghua University, Prof. Liu Wenming, Prof. Xia Jiguo, Prof. Shi Cheng, and associate professor Yue Xiu kun from CNU attended. Prof. Zhang Xushan chaired the thesis committee.
Ten students demonstrated the theme, method, and significance of their papers. He Huan studied the labour and living of Japanese immigrants in the United States from 1890 to 1924.Focusing on the activities of the Dutch East India Company in the Asian sea during the first half of the 17th century, Gong Shuchuan researched colonial and trade network . Based on the medieval Mediterranean view, Zhao Zhao analyzed the Commenda Contract. Huang Zhiyuan’s thesis is also about medieval Mediterranean, he discuss the pirates of that time. Instead of case study, Yin Lianjie made brief analysis of a famous historian, Goitein’s research in Mediterranean. Zhao Ziwei discussed Christian view of Islam in early modern European. Cui Mengchen Wang Lin studied the understanding, interaction and writing between Edward Curr and Australian Aborigines. Wang Shuang researched in the yellow peril in Britain in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Yang Jiaying concentrated on the north Pacific whaling and Hawaii society in 19th century.
According to the students’ statement, the committee posed questions, such as the demarcation of immigration, the concept of interaction, and the analysis of original document. To improve the quality of the thesis, the professors suggested the student to clarify the logic, deepen the research and make them more innovative.
